I think its fair to say that breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. It’s also the most important one! I’ve realised that not having breakfast makes me crave stuff all day – I hate it as I’m usually ending up nibbling on sweet things.
I start my day with a glass of water, freshly squeezed lemon and honey or a fruit tea. I don’t drink coffee although I used to quite a lot, then I realised that it dehydrates me. I’ve always been a coffee lover, its something about the smell and taste which I like. As a student, coffee was my main fuel, big mugs of black coffee all day every day. I feel like my body has become more resistant to coffee and instead of making me feel awake, I’m more sleepy. So, I’m very happy with my new morning swap. It wakes my body up, provides a lot of vitamin C and honey is good for immune system (specially in the winter months). So many benefits, I just can’t say no to that.
My second favourite is muesli. I’m obsess and a bit snobby about them. I’m usually making the muesli mix myself. I’m not a big fan of the supermarket stuff as its full of sugar. I’m always wandering, how is this healthy/ fitness if the level of sugar per portion is sky-high! Quite frankly, all that dry fruits inside the pack doesn’t bring any nutritious values to the body so they’re added just for the taste.
I’m always buying the muesli base from Holland & Barrett and adding nuts or fresh fruits (or both) on top depending on the season – so much tastier and healthier. I’m usually buying a plant-based milk and my recent favourite is the rice+ coconut one.
It might seem funny, but those two simple things sets me for the day. My little morning routine makes me feel more organised and in control.
